Make a small invitation to connect

Turn a wish for closeness into something your partner can notice and answer.

Make the invitation clear

Wanting more closeness does not always need a serious relationship talk. A question, a shared joke, or an invitation to sit together can open a moment of attention. Saying what you would enjoy reduces the need for your partner to guess.

Words to try

“I have missed just being with you. Would you like to sit outside with me after we eat?”

Let the answer be real

An invitation leaves room for yes, no, or another time. If your partner is busy, ask whether a different moment would work. A delayed answer is not enough information to decide how much they care about you.

Notice the small details

You can also begin by naming something you appreciated: a thoughtful errand, a funny message, or the way they listened. Say what you noticed and what it meant to you. Let appreciation stand on its own rather than using it to introduce a complaint.

Make room to listen

If they accept, put aside a distraction and be curious about their answer. There is no required score, streak, or amount of conversation. The point is a moment you both choose, not a test your partner has to pass.
