How we write the guides, idea pages and app comparisons on this website, and what you can expect from them.

Who writes them

Everything here is written by the KinHarmony team, the people who make the app (Dawsie Nora, LLC). Our guides aren’t written or reviewed by therapists, and they aren’t therapy or a substitute for it. They offer communication ideas you can adapt to your own relationship.

Where the guidance comes from

Our communication guides draw on published work from established sources, such as the Gottman Institute’s research on couples and Emotionally Focused Therapy as described by ICEEFT. Each guide links its sources so you can read them yourself. We put the ideas in our own words and don’t claim more than the sources say.

The examples, such as “Words to try,” are written by us to show an idea. They aren’t taken from real couples.

Safety comes first

Our guides about harder conversations say plainly where they stop. They never ask anyone to accept harm or control, and where a conversation involves threats, intimidation or fear, they put safety ahead of talking it through. Communication guidance can’t make another person behave safely.

Reviews and dates

When we review or substantially update a guide, we show the date at the top of it. We only show a review date when a review actually happened.

App comparisons

We make KinHarmony, so we aren’t neutral, and our comparison pages say so. We describe each other app using what its maker publishes: its website, help pages and App Store listing. We show the date we checked, and we say where another app is stronger. We research these pages from what each company publishes. We haven’t tested every app ourselves.

Idea pages

Date ideas, questions, games and Open when letters are written by our team. Costs and times on date ideas are estimates, and prices vary by place.
