Not every adventure needs a passport. A side quest is a small mission you do together, usually in an hour or less, that makes an ordinary day feel a little like a story.
How to play
- Pick one small adventure to do together today.
- Adjust any cost, food, movement or location to suit you both.
- When you’ve done it, share your favorite moment from it.
Side quests
- The grocery swap: agree on a comfortable budget, then each pick a dessert you think the other has not tried. Check ingredients and dietary needs before tasting.
- Blind taste test: choose two foods you both know are safe for you. Taste with your eyes closed and invent extravagant review descriptions.
- Micro-exploration: on a walk, choose a safe turn you usually pass. Give one thing you discover a made-up landmark name.
- The five-photo hunt: together, find something tiny, something crooked, something bright, something old, and something unexpectedly beautiful.
- Living-room tourists: give each other a tour of your home as if it were a very unusual museum.
- The tiny playlist: each choose a song for a fictional road trip. Listen together and name your imaginary destination.
- One-color adventure: pick a color and find three things in that color nearby. Decide which deserves a prize.
- Snack restaurant: make a snack from what you have and write a wildly fancy menu description for it.
- The postcard: explore a nearby place you both enjoy and write one sentence you would send home from your grand expedition.
- Cloud casting: look out a window or sit somewhere comfortable. Cast the clouds, trees, or shadows as characters in a movie.
- Sunrise mission: set one alarm, take a warm drink outside and watch the sky change together.
- Library roulette: each pick a book for the other from a shelf you would never usually visit.
- Dream house window shopping: choose one thing from each shop you pass that would go in your imaginary home.
- Thrift store challenge: set a tiny budget and find each other the best ridiculous gift.
- Map game: close your eyes, point at a map of your town and go for a drink or snack near where your finger lands.
- Kitchen tower: use what’s in the cupboard to build the tallest stable tower you can in five minutes.
- Bench reviews: sit on three different benches on a walk and give each one a star rating.
- Tourists at home: visit a local landmark you’ve never actually been to and take one cheesy photo.
- Soundtrack walk: each make a three song playlist for a walk and swap halfway.
- Dessert crawl: share one small dessert from two or three places nearby and crown a winner.
